Civics Syllabus
Course Description:
Civics is a one semester class which looks at the fundamental principles and basic structure of American government. The class includes an in-depth look at the foundations of government, the Constitution, the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch, the Judicial Branch, citizenship and civil rights, civil liberties, government by the people, elections, state and local government, and comparative political systems.
Special projects will include such topics as the three branches of government and citizenship, civil rights, government by the people, and elections. Students must also attend a public meeting and complete a packet including an essay about their experience.
Class "Challenges" are also available throughout the course and allow students to go beyond the classroom and earn extra-credit.
Classroom activities include: reading, comprehension, and discussion; individual and group content specific activities, various video content to enhance comprehension, document and slide presentation sharing, and formal and informal presentations.

In this class, we use the Magruder's American Government textbook as a foundational resource.
